What it covers

Built for the two sections you sit at a desk.

The capstone has six sections. Four are practical, on the tools, in front of an assessor. Two are written. Capstone Coach is built for the written two, and nothing else, so the practice is written in the style of the capstone.

Covered · Section 1 of 2

Knowledge and theory

Scenario questions written in capstone style, graded instantly, each with the clause cited.

  • Circuit protection
  • RCD protection
  • Earthing
  • IP ratings and switchboard clearance
  • Testing and verification
Covered · Section 2 of 2

Design and calculation

Maximum demand, cable selection and the calcs that sit behind a compliant install. Drill them in the scenario quizzes, then read the worked solution step by step.

  • Maximum demand
  • AS/NZS 3008 cable selection and voltage drop
  • Worked solution with the clause or table cited
Not covered

The four practical sections

Hands-on competency work in front of an assessor. Capstone Coach does not touch these. If that is where you need help, this is not it.

What's inside

Practise the way the exam asks. Then see exactly where you leak marks.

Scenario quizzes

307 questions, each with the clause behind it.

Real-world wiring scenarios written to capstone style: earthing, circuit protection, RCDs, maximum demand, cable selection. Answer, get graded on the spot, then read a step-by-step worked solution that comes with the AS/NZS 3000 or AS/NZS 3008 reference behind the answer. You learn the rule, not just the fact. 236 are open to drill by topic. The other 71 are held back for the timed mocks.

Timed mock exams

Sit it under the clock before the clock matters.

Three lengths, all timed and scored, broken down by topic at the end so you know which area cost you. Sit the short one on a smoko, the long one when exam day is close.

Every mock includes one design and calculation question, with 5 extra minutes on the timer for it. The times shown include those 5 minutes.

  • Timer runs. Submit, or it submits for you
  • Score and pass line shown straight after
  • Topic breakdown on every attempt, kept in your history

Design & Calculations Intermediate

Two circuits share a conduit:

  • Circuit A: 25 A water heater
  • Circuit B: 20 A general-purpose circuit

Both cables are copper TPS. The conduit runs 50 m through a wall.

Using AS/NZS 3000 and AS/NZS 3008.1.1, determine the required cable size for each circuit after considering grouping, current-carrying capacity, voltage drop, and maximum demand.

What cable size for each circuit?

Show the worked solution

Given: 2 circuits in one conduit, L = 50 m, Ca = 1.0. Grouping Cg = 0.85 (Table 24).

Circuit A (25 A):

  • CCC: Iz ≥ 25/0.85 = 29.4 A → 4 mm² (34 × 0.85 = 28.9 A ✓).
  • VD: 4 mm² (11.2) → 14.0 V (6.1%) ✗; 6 mm² (7.3) → 9.13 V (3.97%) ✓.
  • → 6 mm².

Circuit B (20 A):

  • CCC: Iz ≥ 20/0.85 = 23.5 A → 2.5 mm² (25 × 0.85 = 21.25 A ✓).
  • VD: 2.5 mm² (18) → 18.0 V (7.83%) ✗; 4 mm² (11.2) → 11.2 V (4.87%) ✓.
  • → 4 mm².

Final: A = 6 mm², B = 4 mm² (voltage drop governs both).

Who built it

“I built this app because I know first-hand how challenging the capstone is.”

“The questions are designed around the type of things you’ll actually be tested on, so you can study smarter, build confidence, and give yourself the best chance of passing. I also struggled when I went for my capstone, as there is hardly anything useful available on the internet.”

Questions

Straight answers.

Which parts of the capstone does it cover?

The electrical capstone has six sections. Four are practical, hands-on competency assessments. Two are written: knowledge and theory, and design and calculation.

Capstone Coach covers those two written sections. It does not cover the four practical ones.

Is it a subscription?

No. One payment of $99 and the access is yours, with no renewal. Lifetime access includes new questions as they are added. It stays useful after you are licensed, when you want to check a clause on site.

What standards is it built on?

AS/NZS 3000, the Wiring Rules, and AS/NZS 3008 for cable selection, current-carrying capacity and voltage drop in the design and calculation questions. Every worked solution cites the clause or table behind the answer.

Does it replace my training?

No. It is an independent study tool for practice, not a training provider and not a guarantee of a result. Your RTO and your supervisor still do their jobs. This helps you walk in knowing where you stand.

What if I don't pass?

Capstone Coach is practice, not the assessment, and nobody can promise a result. Your scores and mock history stay in your account, so you can keep practising for the next sitting.

Does it work on my phone or laptop?

Yes. It runs in your phone's browser, nothing to install. Log in on a laptop later and your scores and mock exam history are still there.

Can I get a refund?

Access is instant and the full question bank opens the moment you pay, so we do not offer change-of-mind refunds. This does not affect your rights under the Australian Consumer Law, including a remedy if something is faulty. If something is wrong, contact Capstone Coach.

Is Capstone Coach affiliated with Standards Australia?

No. Capstone Coach is an independent study tool. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by Standards Australia.
